Dreamy Iced Golden Milk Latte – Caffeine Free and Low-Sugar
Thispillowy, creamy golden milk latte is a refreshing sip for the afternoon or evening. It’s caffeine free, so you can enjoy itany time of day and still sleep soundly!
As a registered dietitian, I’m always excited about sharing ways to consume more antioxidants in our diets. This turmeric latte is packed with disease-fighting antioxidants, and it tastes so good too! Hints of cinnamon, chai, and black pepper add warmth to this cozy drink.
Recipe
Start by adding a splash of almond milk to a glass, and then combine with your turmeric, cinnamon, chai spice, and black pepper. To get that frothy latte feel, use a milk frother – there are many available at a good price on Amazon. The one I have was inexpensive but really gets the job done!
I like to froth this mixture for 30-45 seconds or until it starts to expand, filling more of the glass. Once you have the amount of froth you want, add ice and almond milk to fill up the rest of the glass.
Substitutions
I used the turmeric powder from matcha.com – if you want to snag this one I have a discount code “RAE” or you can use any turmeric you have. Feel free to substitute your favorite type of milk or plant milk for the almond milk in this recipe. You can leave out the chai spice powder or substitute a splash of chai concentrate or even a chai tea bag. If you use a tea bag, let it steep in warmed milk for a few minutes and remove prior to adding the rest of the spices and ice.
If you don’t have a milk frother, you can also blend your milk/spice mixture in a blender for 30 seconds or so to create some froth. If you don’t have either, this drink will still taste great without the froth – just add a bit more almond milk to help fill your glass, and maybe a bit more turmeric to keep it from becoming diluted.
Nutrition Benefits
Antioxidants are most abundant in foods with a bright or deep natural color – think beets, green tea, kale, egg yolks, turmeric, and even coffee. Consuming plenty of antioxidants is beneficial for our health in countless ways, and has been linked to reduced risk of age-related diseases. Tumeric is rich in not only antioxidants but also anti-inflammatory compounds, and has been studied extensively for its anti-inflammatory benefits. The key is consuming adequate amounts of a variety of colorful foods over time – and this golden milk latte is one fun and easy way to start building that habit.
